Court Rules 401(k) Participants Can Sue
Med Symbol1WASHINGTON, D.C. - This week the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that individual participants in 401(k) savings plans, the most common type of retirement plan, can sue under a pension protection law to recover their losses.

The unanimous decision has implications for 50 million workers with $2.7 trillion invested in 401(k) retirement plans, reported the Associated Press.

Climate Change Top Risk For Insurers:  Ernst & Young

Climate change presents this year's most serious strategic risk for the insurance industry, according to a report released by Ernst & Young on Wednesday.

"It's surprising that this risk, which is typically viewed as a long-term issue, would be identified as the greatest strategic threat for the insurance industry in 2008," notes New York-based Ernst & Young in "Strategic Business Risk Insurance: 2008."

TRIA 2007 Extension

The Terrorism Risk Insurance Program Reauthorization Act of 2007, which extends the expiring Terrorism Risk Insurance Act of 2002 (TRIA as amended and extended in 2005) was passed into law on December 26, 2007.  The extension act leaves most of the provisions of TRIA intact and extends TRIA for seven years, to expire at the end of 2014.  However, there is one significant change which is the inclusion of domestic sponsored acts of terrorism under the act, previously referred to as "non-certified acts of terrorism". 

Another change in the Act, as extended in 2007, requires that insurers disclose to their policyholders the existence of a $100 billion cap on insured losses.

Craigslist Not Liable For Illegal Ads, Court Says
lawSAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Craigslist is not liable for discriminatory housing ads posted on its Web site, a federal appeals court has ruled.

The decision is a victory for the Internet bulletin board where every month more than 30 million people post offers to buy, sell or rent goods and services, including housing, free of charge.
